Strip clubs in metro Atlanta struggle to stay afloat amid legal crackdown

The neon lights of some strip clubs in metro Atlanta are fading out.

Adult entertainment venues are struggling to stay open as cities including Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, Chamblee and Doraville have changed their laws.

Three strip clubs in Sandy Springs have shuttered after lengthy court battles with the city. In Brookhaven, the Pink Pony filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year, following new alcohol rules. A strip club in Chamblee will soon be in court as the city bans nude dancing.

In Sandy Springs, the club Flashers has filed a lawsuit against the city, stating the city unlawfully shut it down while enforcing new ordinances, including one that said adult entertainment venues could not serve alcohol.

“The ordinances were applied because of a distaste for erotic messages offered by a nude dance establishment located on a high-profile corridor of the city,” says the lawsuit. “Flashers seeks damages for claims arising under the First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments to the federal Constitution.”

Chamblee and Doraville have also prohibited nude dancing and banned alcohol licenses for adult businesses in their jurisdictions.
