2 metro Atlanta Walmart stores closing its doors | Here's why

Officials said the store on Ashford Dunwoody Road and Roswell Road will close to the public on July 12.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Two Walmart stores in the metro Atlanta area will be closing their doors, according to officials with the company.

Officials said the supercenter store on Ashford Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody and the neighborhood market on Roswell Road in Marietta, including the pharmacy, will close to the public on July 12.

The Dunwoody location is not that far from Perimeter Mall.

"This decision was not made lightly and was reached only after a careful and thoughtful review process. We have nearly 5,000 stores across the U.S., and unfortunately, some do not meet our financial expectations. While our underlying business is strong, this store hasn’t performed as well as we hoped," the company said.

The company added that most store associates will be transferred to other locations within a 15-mile radius and will be paid through Sept. 20.

Customers with pharmacy prescriptions will also transfer to another convenient location.

Walmart spokesperson Alicia Anger released the following statement on behalf of the company:

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our stores in Dunwoody, GA and Marietta, GA. We look forward to continuing to serve them at one of the nine other locations across the area, on walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business.”
