AAA 'Tow to Go' program available in Georgia if you do some holiday drinking

The annual program kicks off Christmas Eve.

ATLANTA — In an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road, AAA is once again jump-starting its Tow to Go program during the holidays.

Starting Christmas Eve, people across Georgia can call 855-286-9246 or 855-TOW-2-GO to get their vehicle towed to a safe place within a 10-mile radius, according to the company.

The service is free, however, AAA said they want people to treat it as a backup or emergency plan. Callers do not have to be a AAA member, according to a news release.

With about one-third of deadly traffic crashes involving drunk drivers, AAA hopes to put a dent in the statistic in the final weeks of the year.

“Driving impaired doesn’t only endanger yourself, but risks the lives of all the adults and children you share the road with,” Montrae Waiters, a spokesperson for the auto club said.

The service will be available from Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. through Jan. 3 until 6 a.m. The tows will include one confidential local ride for one person and their vehicle, according to AAA. The company is asking passengers to wear a mask or face coverings.

Appointments cannot be scheduled to use Tow to Go as it is to be utilized as a safety net, the auto club said. They ask people to determine a designated driver before celebrating.
