ATLANTA — Uber is launching a new feature in Atlanta.
People can now return a package without leaving their homes, thanks to a service provided via Uber. The option comes as online purchases are on the rise and customers find returns a pesky part of the refund process.
For a fee, people can use the "return a package" feature on Uber or Uber Eats to have a courier pick up prepaid and sealed packages and drop them off at a post office, UPS, or FedEx.
Beginning Wednesday, this feature will be available in nearly 5,000 cities with plans to add more.
How to use the Uber return package feature
- Tap the package icon in the Uber app or look for "return a package" in the settings section of the Uber Eats app.
- Select a pickup spot.
- Enter where the package needs to be dropped off.
- Select if the package has a shipping label or QR code (a requirement).
- Pay a $5 flat fee
- Uber One Members will be charged $3
- Track your package live via the app
See the gif below on how to use the service. The story continues below.
Couriers will accept up to five packages at a time. Uber recommends the weight to be below 30 pounds and be less than $100 in value.
Live tracking will be available via the Uber app. The courier will send a photo of the receipt when the drop-off is complete.
This new feature comes a few months after Uber launched a service where children younger than 18 can book unaccompanied rides for themselves. Atlanta was one of a dozen cities launching the teen app. It also sends notifications and real-time updates to parents.
Earlier this year, Uber also rolled out a new safety feature in Atlanta for riders and drivers to record audio during trips. Learn more about it here.
