Gas prices in Georgia hit another high, and could keep going

Experts say the prices will continue to increase next season.

Gas prices in Georgia have risen again, hitting another high for 2019. Just last week, prices increased an average of five cents per gallon, according to AAA.

In all, the state average increased between .28 cents and .23 cents over the last 32 days, according to industry experts.  Prices outside of Atlanta continue to be lower than those inside the city. In Cobb, Paulding, Cowetta and Walton, gas prices are lower than Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton Counties, according to GasBuddy.

As for the overall increase, AAA said the reason is “due to rising demand, reduced refinery output, and lower gasoline supplies," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

"Unfortunately the springtime surge may not be over quite yet. These seasonal factors could keep upward pressure on prices at the pump through Memorial Day weekend," Jenkins said.

Drivers in Georgia are paying an average of $2.42 per gallon for regular unleaded. AAA said that is the highest daily average so far this year. This is still below the national average of $2.56.
