ATLANTA — Gas prices continue to climb, but there are simple ways holiday travelers can save a few pennies.
Driving all over town looking for cheap gas just might burn up whatever savings you might find. However, Patrick DeHaan of GasBuddy tells us shopping around doesn’t have to be be an exhausting endeavor. DeHaan says it’s not hard to save 10 to 25-cents a gallon by driving as little as a half mile.
Here are a few other tips to help you save at the pump.
DeHaan says the way you pay can make a difference. There are credit cards available that offers gas discounts.
There are gas stations with loyalty programs. They’re often free to join and will lead to discounts of a few pennies a gallon.
DeHaan says fill up early in the week. Gas stations aren’t as busy and they often lower their prices then.
The way you drive to the gas station can save you money. Avoid hard breaking and accelerating.
DeHaan says driving 5-10 mph under the highway speed limit can greatly increase your miles per gallon.
