ATLANTA — Average gas prices in Georgia have now dipped below $3 a gallon, according to AAA, as drivers continue to see relief following on highs of nearly $4.50 a gallon back in the summer.
According to the most recent figures by AAA - The Auto Club Group, Georgia's average is now $2.96 a gallon. That is well below the national average of $3.49 per gallon, in part thanks to the suspension of the state gas tax that will continue through at least Nov. 11.
According to AAA, the cheapest gas in Georgia can be found in the Athens ($2.82), Albany ($2.81) and Warner Robins ($2.80) markets, while it's still on the more expensive side in Atlanta ($3.01) and Savannah ($3.11).
The $2.96 statewide average is down 30 cents from where it was a month ago, when it was $3.26.
“Currently, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas have the lowest gas price averages in the U.S.,” Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman, said in a statement. “Georgian's reprieve at the pump persists due to Governor Kemp's gas tax suspension and low demand. However, fears that the volatility in the Middle East could spread in the region, may cause gas prices to rise in the global oil markets.”
