ATLANTA — More than 6,000 groups responded to an open call for funding through the online platform Yield Giving, powered by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
On Tuesday, the billionaire announced 361 "community-focused" groups received grants worth $640 million.
Of that, nine Georgia-based organizations received a total of $15 million — and the recognition that their work is not in vain.
“We are grateful for this amazing gift, for the impact it will have on our community and also for the recognition that comes with it,” said Belisa Urbina, co-founder and CEO of Ser Familia, in a statement. Ser Familia is a social service group serving the Hispanic community in metro Atlanta and Puerto Rico. It received a $2 million grant, which was twice as much as it applied for.
