A motorcyclist is suffering critical injuries after being ejected from his bike by one crash and then run over by an SUV that got away.
Cobb County police responded to the scene of a crash Thursday night on Bells Ferry Road near Shallowford Road.
Investigators said a couple had been riding a red Harley Davidson motorcycle when it became disabled forcing them to stop in the left northbound lane. Authorities said that's when a silver Toyota Sienna ran into the rear of the bike. Investigators said the collision ejected the operator into the roadway.
After being thrown into the road, a second vehicle, described as a small dark SUV, ran over the operator of the motorcycle. The driver stopped for a moment but then drove away according to witnesses.
The critically injured operator of the motorcycle was identified as 25-year-old Dylan Threewitt from Canton. His passenger, Kayli McGaha was treated for injuries that first responders said weren't life-threatening. Both were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital; however, there have been no updates on their conditions. The driver of the first vehicle involved in the crash was not injured.
Police are searching for the driver of the second vehicle and encourage people to call the Cobb County Police Department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit at 770-499-3987 if they see this SUV.
