The "Half Baked" flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream remains one of the company's top sellers, rivaling the success of the iconic "Cherry Garcia," "Chunky Monkey" and "Phish Food."
But for those celebrating 4/20 Day with a special craving (dare we say the munchies) for ice cream ... money is no object today.
Ben & Jerry got its start in the ice cream market 41 years ago in Burlington, Vermont. But on this day, California serves as the home to perhaps the company's most ambitious promotion in some time.
Here's the hook: California residents (or those crossing the border in time) would receive a free pint of "Half Baked" on Saturday ... provided they also place marijuana orders from Caliva, a cannabis dispensary in San Jose.
Which begs the question: Is that an easy crossover move, linking cannabis usage ... to sampling ice cream roughly 60 minutes later?
At this time, it's legal to purchase marijuana in nearly 30 states; but California was among the first to make such a transaction lawful (1990s).
As such, it represents a good test case for Ben & Jerry's to launch this promotion ... with the possibility of taking it nationwide for April 20, 2020.
The Half Baked flavor includes chocolate and vanilla ice cream blended together, while accompanied by "gobs" of chocolate chip cookie dough and fudge brownie.
