ATLANTA — President Trump will travel to Alabama Friday to tour the devastation left behind from a powerful tornado that shredded parts of the state, and Georgia, Sunday.
The President made the announcement at the White House Tuesday.
"It’s been a tragic situation, but a lot of good work is being done," Trump announced.
The monster EF-4 tornado thrashed through Lee County, Alabama, where it left 23 people dead in its wake. It continued for another dozen miles, crossing over the Georgia state line into neighboring Harris and Talbot counties.
The president said earlier in the week that he has been in touch with both Alabama and Georgia's governors in the wake of the storm. The White House did not indicate whether the President would also travel to Georgia, also hard hit by the storm.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for those counties, as well as Grady County in south Georgia, just above the Florida state line.
