Alpharetta man dies after falling from dock at Lake Lanier

The victim's body was found just after midnight, Sunday.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- A son and emergency responders were unable to save a man investigators believe fell off a dock into Lake Lanier on Saturday.

The sheriff's office and fire department in Forsyth County were requested around 10 p.m. to reports of a man who fell off a dock and didn't resurface.

When teams arrived to the Hayes Drive address, they learned of the fall from the victim's son. Rescue divers, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Army Corps of Engineers and Hall County marine units all responded to aid in the search.

Sadly, the DNR found the man's body in about 25 feet of water using special boat-mounted sonar just after midnight Sunday. They pronounced 59-year-old Jalil Poorak of Alpharetta, Georgia dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office is still investigating the drowning.
