MARIETTA, Ga. — A Cobb County Superior Court Judge has sent a 41-year-old Mableton man to prison for trafficking heroin.
According to a release from the district attorney's office, on Wedneday, May 1, Cobb Police executed a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Tiontae Jamon Copeland was a passenger.
During the stop, near the corner of Favor Road and White Oak Drive, a K-9 officer alerted on the vehicle, which led officers to a plastic bag. The bag contained more than five grams of heroin.
Police dashcam video showed that Copeland had tossed the bag from the car. A 9 mm pistol was found in the passenger door of the vehicle.
"This is enough heroin to reach more than 50 people," said ADA Nicola Rossi, the prosecutor on the case. "This verdict sends the message that those who distribute dangerous drugs on the streets of Cobb County will be held accountable."
Last Thursday, a Cobb County jury found Copeland guilty of trafficking heroin and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Copeland already had a previous cocaine conviction in Cobb County.
On Monday, Cobb Superior Court Judge C. LaTain Kell sentenced Copeland as a repeat offender to 35 years -- with 10 years to serve in custody, and the remainder to serve on probation. Kell also banished Copeland from Cobb County.
