ATLANTA — A group of women rolled up their sleeves to pack up purses in an effort to help women experiencing homelessness in the metro Atlanta area.
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., came together for a day of service at Atlanta Housing (AH), the largest housing authority in Atlanta. AH staffers and AKA members collected and donated gently used handbags, toiletries, and other supplies to pack up purses for women in need.
The purses will be donated to the nonprofit Dignify A Diva Inc. The organization said it’s donated over 12,000 purses, backpacks and overnight bags since 2015.
On Friday, the group of women were able to add to that number, packing 145 purses to be distributed to unhoused women throughout the metro.
