Midtown fire station being redeveloped into affordable housing, city says

Fire Station 15, located at 170 10th St NE, is set to undergo a comprehensive redevelopment that prioritizes affordable housing.

ATLANTA — A project has been launched in Atlanta to transform a Midown fire station into a mixed-use site, integrating both affordable and market-rate housing above the modernized station, according to the city on Wednesday.

The redevelopment effort of Fire Station 15 in Midtown is a collaboration between Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation (AUD), part of the mayor's continued goal to provide more affordable housing.

“The Midtown Fire Station redevelopment allows the City to move forward with two critical projects at the same time—fully renovate Fire Station 15 and substantially increase Midtown’s affordable housing portfolio," Dickens said. "This is efficient government at work while saving tax dollars in the process.”

Fire Station 15, located at 170 10th St NE, is set to undergo a comprehensive redevelopment that prioritizes affordable housing while simultaneously upgrading fire and emergency services for the surrounding communities.

AUD envisions the development as a model for repurposing underutilized public land to deliver multiple public benefits simultaneously, with a particular focus on providing deeply and permanently affordable housing.

“This project will lay out a blueprint for repurposing underutilized public land to deliver multiple public benefits at once – including deeply, permanently affordable housing,” John Majors, CEO of AUD, said.

Contractors and suppliers looking to assist in the project can put in a request for a quote or RFQ now through March 4 at 5 p.m. AUD will assess the responses and contact one or more respondents deemed most qualified to execute the city's vision.
