LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A Loganville school unveiled a new inclusive and adaptive playground on Monday.

The Cooper Elementary School is now one of four adaptive playgrounds in Gwinnett County's 80 public elementary schools.

“As we continue to enlarge our special education department at Cooper Elementary, it has become very apparent that our students with special needs require support in all areas of their lives — including play," said George Kashella, the assistant principal of special education.

According to a news release, students with special needs comprise 21% of the school's population.

The school partnered with Builders, an insurance company, to build the playground. Together, they raised $279,000 to fund the project.

“When we learned of Cooper Elementary's dream of creating a playground designed to meet the needs of all children, Builders stepped up to answer the call,” said Matthew Burnett, Builders chief financial officer.

The playground includes adaptations for students who use a wheelchair and motor-challenged students, a news release added.
