National Dog Day | Georgia agencies celebrate their furry friends

GEORGIA, USA — Dogs are widely recognized for their loyalty, loveable spirit and wagging tails. 

And Aug. 26 marks National Dog Day where all dogs are recognized and celebrated -- from the comfort and joy they bring to even the ones putting their lives on the line to help serve and protect. 

During this year's National Dog Day, multiple Georgia law enforcement agencies took to social media to shout out their furry friends -- their K-9s -- for their dedication. 

For example, Tybee Island Police posted on Facebook about the first-ever dog to work for its agency. K-9 Rocky is a former shelter dog who became an official member of the team in June 2020. 

"Of course, he isn't your typical police dog," the department wrote. "Instead of sniffing out bombs, drugs or bad guys, Rocky's whole job is to make people smile!"
