Hundreds celebrate Global Black Pride in Atlanta

Hundreds of people from across the globe are in town for a weekend-long celebration of the Black experience within the LGBTQ community.

ATLANTA — Hundreds of people looking to celebrate Global Black Pride have been showing up all weekend long in Atlanta.

People met at Piedmont Park on Sunday to continue the weekend-long event.

One organizer, Pressure King Friday, said it is exciting to see the turnout because Black Pride started out on a much smaller scale.

"Black Pride, we started out with a radio, and now we have sponsors, tents, the crowds, stages. It's like, whoo!" Pressure King Friday said.

This is the first time in history that Global Black Pride is being held in the United States.

Queen Hatcher Johnson said that Atlanta was the perfect place to host the event.

“I think it's very important that it comes to Atlanta for visibility to let people know that all of these rights are human rights. Every life is important,"  Johnson stated.

Pressure King Friday said celebrating the culture encourages people to be true to who they are.

“We gotta show up in the daytime as well as the night. We can party all night, but we gotta show up in the day," Friday said.

Global Black Pride wraps up on Labor Day with a White Party and a barbecue.
