ATLANTA — After more than three decades of serving up brews, Java Jive — the beloved coffee shop on Ponce de Leon Avenue — announced it will be closing its doors.
The coffee shop has been a staple on Ponce for nearly 31 years. It began serving coffee to customers with a sign that said "Ready to Pour in 94."
"It is with great sadness and many mixed emotions that the sign will now read “Closing our Doors in 24,'" Java Jive Owners Steven Horwitz and Shira Levetan shared in an Instagram post. “We can’t begin to say how grateful we are to the many people who have kept us going for over three decades.”
The owners said Java Jive has been more than just a coffee shop to its patrons. It has been a place for countless celebrations and milestones, including first dates, proposals and weddings.
“To all the regulars who are now like family, to the lifelong friends we’ve made, and to the memories of those who are no longer with us — thank you,” the owners wrote in the social media post.
Java Jive's last day will be on Sunday, Dec. 22.
"What a crazy ride it has been to be on Ponce for the last 30 years as the city has changed around us, yet we’ve remained the same," Horwitz and Leventan added. "We hope you’ll be able to stop by and visit before we go. It has been our pleasure to serve you, to fill you up with strong coffee, fluffy biscuits, comforting food and hopefully fond memories. Thank you from the bottom of our heart."
