MARIETTA, Ga. — Just three days after Christmas, a Marietta business gifted a single mother a brand-new roof for her home, a much-needed blessing that came at the perfect time.
Earlier this month, Transformation Roofing announced a free roof giveaway on social media, and through a collaboration with the local radio, a winner was picked - Amy Koonce.
"We had a conversation with her, and we couldn't have met a more genuine, sincere person or someone who's more in need of getting this done today," Tyler Streetman, Owner and President of Transformation Roofing.
Streetman said Koonce's roof was in dire need, revealing multiple leaks, rotted decking and missing shingles.
"This is our first roof giveaway, and it's a special day for us. Our goal is to do four roof giveaways throughout the next year," Streetman said.
Koonce detailed the challenges she faced with her home's deteriorating condition, with water leaks causing damage and some areas becoming increasingly worse.
"I had water pouring through the fire alarm when it rained," Koonce said. "But it was apparently worse when they removed the shingles and stuff."
Alexa Waters, a neighbor and friend of Koonce for seven years, was the one who entered her into the contest and was thrilled she won.
"She is one of my greatest friends, and literally, like, the most perfect neighbor," Waters said. "We've been friends for a long time, and she's super generous."
The roof replacement not only alleviated a significant financial burden but also provided a sense of security and stability.
"I think the folks who had this house before her cut a lot of corners, and it's really not fair that she's having to deal with the aftermath of that," Waters said. "You know, she deserves to have like a safe and stable home that's not leaking."
