ATLANTA — The family of a 70-year-old man is devastated after he was shot and killed following a carjacking in Atlanta over the weekend.
The Atlanta Police Department said on Saturday, officers responded to a person shot call around the 2100 block of Metropolitan Pkwy SW at around 6:40 p.m. APD said officers found Tuttle shot, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died. Police identified the suspect as Jaylen Mosley. He was taken into custody and is facing a murder charge, police said.
On Monday, the Tuttle family sent a statement to 11Alive. They described Tuttle as "a creative and kind soul with an amazing sense of humor who will be deeply missed."
"We are devastated that David was taken by the senseless violence so prevalent today in communities large and small," the Tuttle Family wrote in the statement. "We are thankful for the Atlanta Police Department’s swift apprehension of the suspect and are working in cooperation with the authorities and the court to ensure there is justice for this crime."
Tuttle was a native Atlantan raised in Ansley Park and a member of the South Atlanta community. The family said he was also a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
"A renaissance man, artist, and master craftsman, he was a creative and kind soul with an amazing sense of humor who will be deeply missed," the family added in the statement.
