ATLANTA — With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, there are many festivities taking place this weekend to honor the men and women who’ve served the country.
“We serve and put our lives on the line and fight wars in different countries so they don’t have to be fought on American soil," said Air Force veteran EJ Alexander.
Alexander and many more participated in the parade with his car club.
He said the parade gives him an opportunity to connect with the community.
“Our mission is to motivate and inspire youth through education and training," Alexander said.
Veteran Ruben Muradian and his friends have a passion for decommissioned military Humvees.
They take the vehicles, transform them into civilian vehicles and participate in the Veteran’s Day parade every year.
“I saw one come up for sale many years ago. I bought it, loved it, fixed it up and sold it, then bought another one," Muradian said.
For Muradian, Veteran’s Day is an opportunity to show those who’ve served that their sacrifice is appreciated.
“We send them out to do their job, and we bring them back home, but we forget to take care of them. This is a good way of remembering and honoring those who fought for us," said Muradian.
The parade started at 15th Street and Peachtree Street and ended up at 5th Street and Peachtree Street.
