Volunteers feed Atlanta's first responders on Christmas Eve

Fourteen teams delivered to police and fire departments around the city.

ATLANTA — For three years, a group of volunteers meet up to pack dinners and deliver them to all the Atlanta first responders.

This year – 14 teams of elves are taking these meals to 43 locations all over the city.

“We really enjoy giving back and thanking them for," said Denise Starling with Buckhead Rotary. "They are working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and we want to thank them for keeping us safe.”

The meals are full of all the traditional Christmas meal items and even a dessert.

“So it’s a honey-baked ham, all the sides," Starling said. "So we’ve got mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, a green bean casserole and then a pie from Southern Baked Pies.”

Starling said the idea to deliver Christmas meals to first responders was born during the pandemic and the effort keeps getting bigger every year.

Rebecca Johnson and her husband are bringing meals to the firefighters at the Buckhead Station.

“These first responders work hard, hard and don’t necessarily get the credit they deserve," said volunteer Rebecca Johnson. "So we do several things throughout the year at Buckhead Rotary to recognize them.”

Johnson said she’s hoping that spreading a little cheer -- and food -- will have a big impact.

“I hope everyone can be kind and gracious and positive," Johnson said.
