18-year-old charged in shooting that injured 6 in DeKalb County

Police said Jerone Wilson, 18, is charged in connection to the incident.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The above video is from a previous report of the incident.

A teen suspect has been charged in connection to a shootout in a DeKalb County neighborhood that left six people injured last week.

Police announced Monday that Jerone Wilson, 18, was charged with five counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Officers also said Wilson remains at an area hospital where he is being treated for injuries. It's unclear the extent of his injuries or if he was injured during the shooting.

On May 30, authorities responded to a home at the 2300 block of Greenway Drive at the intersection of Snapfinger Way around 10 p.m. The home is not far from the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road near Wesley Chapel Park.

In a press conference, DeKalb County Police Lt. Shane Smith said that six men were shot but that they were all alive. He said the youngest involved in the shooting was 18 years old. He said they were rushed to the hospital with their conditions ranging from minor to serious, although he said it does not appear at this time that any of the injuries sustained were life-threatening.

He said the shootout started between two groups that were in the neighborhood.

One resident told 11Alive at the scene that he had just gotten home when he heard what he described as 30 to 40 gunshots rattle off. He said after one round of gunfire, there was a pause and then a second round of gunfire. He said he saw anywhere from seven to nine ambulances leaving the scene.
