LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A Gwinnett County teenager has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2020 murder of a man who was killed during a drug robbery, the Gwinnett district attorney's office said in a release Friday.

Abraham Quintanar, 19, was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18 in the shooting death of 28-year-old Marcus Gilead.

Quintanar was arrested back in February 2020 when he was just 15 years old. He was tried as an adult.

The district attorney's office said that Quintanar held the weapon to Gilead as he sat in his car outside his home as two other men involved in the crime searched for the $600 they had paid him earlier that day to buy marijuana, according to the authorities.

With guns drawn on Gilead, the three demanded to get the money, the release said.

After a gunshot rang out, Gilead went around the side of the SUV and tackled Quintanar and began to punch him in the face. Quintanar was able to get his gun, where he shot and killed Gilead, the DA's office said.

Quintanar confessed to firing his weapon, and a jury eventually found him guilty on all eight counts against him. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus five years.

Another suspect pleaded guilty to reduced charges of voluntary manslaughter. The third suspect was released on a $50,000 bond and home confinement with an ankle monitor and awaits his trial.
