ELBERTON, Ga. — A teen girl is dead after her step-father shot and killed her before turning the gun on himself.
It all happened Saturday night outside a home on Wallace Street in Elbert County, Ga., nearly two hours east of Atlanta. Two others were shot during the incident.
Authorities in Elberton County said the 17-year old was shot and killed by her step-father, 49-year-old Raphael Diaz de Leon, after a domestic dispute broke out at the home on Reese Street. Investigators don't know exactly what led up to the shooting.
According to the Elberton Police Chief, Diaz de Leon began shooting and struck the teen with an unknown number of bullets. When police arrived to the scene, they found the bodies of teen and her step-father dead from gunshot wounds.
The girl's mother and another man, who had been passing by in his car and stopped to help the woman escape, were also hit by the gunfire. Both of those victims were transported to the hospital, but it wasn't known what their condition was. A 10 and 12-year-old were also present at the time of the shooting, but were not injured in the incident.
Authorities in Elberton County and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are still conducting an investigation.
