Woman fires shots at burglar breaking into her home, police say

The homeowner told the suspect very plainly not to come into the house. When he did, she shot at him.

COMMERCE, Ga. — A 20-year-old Powder Springs man has been charged with burglary after deputies said he broke into a home in Commerce early Tuesday morning.

According to investigators, the homeowner heard someone trying to get into a window at her home in the 5800 block of Highway 82 Spur just before midnight.

When she looked out her back door, she saw a black man standing there. She told him she was armed and told him not to come in.

A short time later, investigators said, she heard glass breaking from upstairs. She fired two shots toward the suspect.

At that point, deputies arrived and arrested the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Hans Rogers from Powder Springs, without incident.

Rogers was charged with home invasion and burglary.
