3 men taken to the hospital after shooting near southeast Atlanta gas station | What we know

ATLANTA — Three men were taken to the hospital after being shot Friday afternoon in southeast Atlanta, police said.

It happened around 12:18 p.m. when officers responded near the intersection of Browns Mill Road SE and Cleveland Avenue SE, where they found a red car riddled with bullets. The incident appears to have happened in front of the nearby Mobil gas station. However, police also said they believe the shooting happened at a different location.

Atlanta Police said a 37-year-old man, a 28-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were injured in the shooting. The 37-year-old was taken to the hospital in "critical condition." Authorities added that the other two men were in "stable condition."

11Alive's Bobeth Yates spoke with Sam Raja who reacted to the shocking scene that played out in front of the gas station where he works.

"It's so scary," Raja said. "We just saw the red car—that's what we saw—and there were a lot of police here. We did not hear anything, and we were so scared."

We obtained surveillance footage from the nearby gas station, which showed a car pulling up near the red car with someone inside waving their hands. An APD patrol car then pulled up to the scene moments later, the video showed.

Authorities said they believe the car was driving when it was shot at. Police also added they believe the incident involved multiple scenes and that the shooting may have started prior to the car getting to the intersection.

All nearby schools in the area were placed on lockdown following the shooting, but the lockdowns have since been lifted. The schools that were locked down include Dobbs Elementary, Cleveland Avenue Elementary, Hank Aaron New Beginnings Academy, and Humphries Elementary.

"It's an active investigation. We are requesting the public's assistance in locating the original incident location; if you have any information related to this incident, we are requesting the public to contact either the Atlanta Police aggravated assault unit or Crime Stoppers unit," said Lt. April White.

11Alive has a crew en route to the scene, and we will update this story when more information becomes available.
