NEW ORLEANS — Three out of the four teenagers on trial for the fatal carjacking of Linda Frickey were sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser charge in the case.
As WWL Louisiana Mike McDaniel reports from the courtroom, Briniyah Baker, Lenyra Theophile, and Mar’qel Curtis pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter.
The three were sentenced to 20 years in prison. They will receive credit for time served and spend time in juvenile prison, before being switched to adult prison when they become adults
The sudden plea change came on the first day of jury selection for the teens' trial.
The other defendant, John Honore, still faces second-degree murder charges in the death of Frickey, who was carjacked by the teens and dragged to her death.
The trial was supposed to begin on Apr. 4, of this year, but was delayed by a judge until March 2024. The Louisiana Supreme Court then decided that the trial must be held in 2023.
