HART COUNTY, Ga. — Fire investigators have ruled a Memorial Day house fire a case of arson after they found reason to believe the blaze was no accident.
A home in the 2500 block of Old Elbert Road in Royston, Georgia is no more following the May 27 fire that tore through the entire structure leaving barely anything more than a charred frame.
What little good news that can come from a home burning is that no one lived there at the time - it had been vacant for a year. But investigators with the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office said that led to another clue that something may have been intentional about the destruction. No utilities were connected at the time the house caught fire. That means no electricity - or chance that a bad outlet could have sparked it.
Now, both state investigators, the Hart County Fire Department and the Hart County Sheriff's Office are looking for answers. And anyone with information could receive up to $10,000 if their tip leads to an arrest and conviction.
