DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A person was shot and killed in their car at a DeKalb County apartment on Wednesday night, according to police.
It happened at the Somerset Apartments complex on 650 Abberley Way in Stone Mountain.
Residents who live at the apartment complex told 11Alive they are now concerned for their safety. A mom of two young children who live at the apartment complex said it's too close for comfort, describing it's the second time in the past two weeks that someone has been shot near their building.
"It was a little different since I moved here from Chicago, but baby I have heard some shots out here since I've been here," resident Beverly Williams said.
Williams moved her family down to Georgia last year looking for a better and safer environment than the one she grew up in. But she's troubled by all the crime she's seeing around her apartment complex community.
"I would have to say I've heard so many shots that actually last weekend was ridiculous," Williams said. "I saw caution tape, the yellow tape literally connected to my building and the next building."
The amount of gunfire she has heard since she moved in has been so alarming that she is keeping her two daughters inside. Williams said she plans on being extra protective of her kids while living there.
"My baby is is not coming outside without me," Williams said. "She cannot ride in this parking lot or apartment complex without be standing in front. I'm just, I'm just not OK with it."
DeKalb County Police have not identified a suspect in the shooting and the medical examiner's office has not identified the victim at this time.
Police have not released any information about the victim or said if they've identified a suspect.
