ATLANTA — A man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 4-year-old child that was found dead earlier this month, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Police said officers responded Dec. 11 to a home on Renfrew Court SW in the Baker Hills neighborhood to a call for an unresponsive child.
In an update Friday, Dec. 22, APD said Rodney McWeay had been arrested and is being charged with murder, first degree child cruelty, second degree child cruelty, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
It is unclear whether McWeay had any relation to the child. The update Friday did not contain new details about the case beyond McWeay's arrest, nor were there details on the circumstances of how he was arrested.
The cause of the child's death is also still being investigated.
"Grady EMS responded to the scene and transported the child to the hospital where (the child) was later pronounced deceased. Investigators responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the death," a police statement on Dec. 11 said. "At this time, the cause and manner of death is unclear and will be determine by further investigation and autopsy."
