Athens homeless shelter employee attacked with a machete, police say

A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the attack, which left the victim seriously injured.

ATHENS, Ga. — An employee of the Advantage Homeless Day Service Center in Athens has been hospitalized after being attacked with a machete as he was leaving work on Thursday, police said.

According to Athens-Clarke County police, the man had "serious injuries," including to his head and face. He is reportedly in critical condition. According to the victim's sister, he was life-flighted from a local hospital to Grady Memorial in Atlanta.

ACCPD quickly located the suspect and the weapon. They arrested a 33-year-old man and charged him with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of a weapon in the commission of a crime.
