A 15-year-old student was arrested at Cedar Shoals High School for bringing a loaded gun to school, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
A school resource officer with the Clarke County School District tracked down the male student and found the loaded firearm in his backpack. The gun turned out to be stolen, police said. It was used in a recent auto break-in and two drive-by shootings at a Martin Court home, according to police.
The two drive-by shootings at Martin Court happened Dec. 9 and Dec. 10, according to Geof Gilland, a public information officer with Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
On Dec. 9, a firearm was discharged at the home and a neighbor's car was shot, Gilland said. The same residence was hit again the next day, Dec. 10. Several shots were fired into a home, hitting a bedroom and living room.
The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and two counts of aggravated assault stemming from the drive-by shootings.
The 15-year-old was transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
