ATLANTA — Officers responded to two calls of teens being shot Monday night in the area of East Atlanta, at two separate locations in incidents police believe are related.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers first responded around 9:20 p.m. to 1988 Flat Shoals Road, a gas station at the intersection with Fayetteville Road. They found a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the back.

That teenager was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to a police statement.

Shortly after that, officers responded to a residence on Bouldercrest Road, about a mile away. At that location, officers found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her right knee. She was described as alert, conscious and breathing and taken to a hospital as well.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the two incidents are related," the police statement said. "Investigators with the Aggravated Assault unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, the investigation is ongoing."
