ATLANTA — A man is behind bars after a woman was found shot to death inside a car outside an Atlanta gas station Thursday morning.
The driver of the car alerted police to the 42-year-old woman's body outside the BP gas station on Cleveland Avenue SW just after midnight. The woman's alleged boyfriend said she shot herself in the head while they were driving, but police now believe she was murdered.
After an investigation and obtaining probable cause, police charged 39-year-old Dontavious Wright with murder, aggravated assault, and gun possession. It is unclear if Wright is the boyfriend who told police the woman shot herself. The woman was the passenger in the car.
Hewitt said investigators were speaking to the driver about what happened. After the investigation and interviews, police made an arrest.
The woman was identified as 42-year-old Vermeka Williams of Atlanta.
Wright is currently at the Fulton County Jail.
