ATLANTA — A man was shot outside a west Midtown leasing office on Howell Mill Road Wednesday afternoon in the area of a busy shopping and dining district. Authorities said the suspect has been arrested.
Atlanta Police Department officers were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. to 930 Howell Mill Road NW, which is near The Brady Apartments and several restaurants including The Optimist and Superica. When officers arrived, APD said officers found a man who had been shot. Police added he was taken to Grady Hospital where he is stable. They believe he had some kind of interaction with the suspect before the shooting.
"We're still in the preliminary stages of the investigation, we're trying to determine exactly what led up to this," APD's Sgt. John Chafee said.
APD said its officers were checking a nearby apartment for the suspect. Video from a viewer shows heavy police presence and SWAT in the area.
Police said SWAT and negotiators were able to coerce him out of the apartment and he was taken into custody. Officers are still investigating.
The Optimist and Superica are both closed for the rest of the day and will not serve dinner.
