BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Police are investigating after an Atlanta man seemingly vanished and was found dead shortly after in Alabama over the holiday weekend.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), Deundray Cottrell, 31, was last seen on July 4 at a home in the South East Lake neighborhood.
Authorities began searching for Cottrell, and neighbors showed police video of him walking through the neighborhood, which narrowed the search down.
On Saturday, Cottrell's body was found in a shed of an abandoned home just a few streets over from where he was last seen, NBC affiliate WVTM reported. Police were treating Cottrell's death as an "unclassified death" until Sunday when the coroner's office ruled it a homicide.
Police now say Julian Morris, 31, is a person of interest in Cottrell's death. Officials said Morris was the victim's partner and was the last person to see him alive.
Anyone with information on the case or Morris' location is asked to contact BPD's Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
