ATLANTA — Two teen boys were killed early Tuesday morning and a 12-year-old was injured in a shooting at an apartment complex in Atlanta's Oakland City neighborhood.
Atlanta Police are still investigating the exact circumstances of the shooting.
Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said officers responded to the apartment complex on Sparks Street a little before 1 a.m.
A 13-year-old was pronounced dead on scene and a second 13-year-old, as well as the 12-year-old, were transported to a hospital after initially being taken to a nearby fire station. The second 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
After 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the boys as Jakody Davis and Lamon Freeman.
The 12-year-old was in stable condition, police said. That child's injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Smith said the shooting occurred in a stairwell of the complex leading up to an apartment, but there was no additional information about what led up to the shooting. The homicide commander said investigators are speaking with witnesses, including family, and reviewing videos.
A girl on scene who said her cousin was one of the victims spoke to reporters and said she felt her relative had not done anything to cause the shooting.
"I don't think he deserved this, and I think it was wrong of whoever did that (the shooting)," she said.
