Atlanta Police ask for tips to find pair who robbed a Dollar General, shot off-duty security guard

An off-duty security guard was shot multiple times while trying to thwart the robbery at the Dollar General store.

ATLANTA — New surveillance video shows two suspects accused of shooting a man while trying to rob a Dollar General in Atlanta.

It happened on Oct. 9 at the Dollar General on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.

The 40-second surveillance video clearly shows two men dressed in all black -- both wearing surgical masks -- just seconds before the pair tried to rob the store and shot an off-duty security guard who tried to intervene.

The gunshot victim is 32-year-old Corey Lampley. 11Alive's Angelina Salcedo spoke with him last month after the terrifying incident. He was fully dressed in his security guard uniform and shopping at the Dollar General Store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when it all went down.

"'You know what it is, everybody! It's a robbery!' Lampley recalled the perpetrators saying when they attempted to rob the store. "People were terrified. I just kind of drew my weapon because I'm 6'1" and 300 pounds and in a security uniform."

Lampley is also a wrestler known as "Renegade" in the wrestling community.

He explained that as soon as the suspects pulled out their guns, so did he. He said the 15 people in the store went running while he chased one of the men.

"Perpetrator number two cocked his gun, and when I turned around, that's when I got hit in the shoulder," Lampley said.

Lampley was shot several times. After making sure that everyone was OK, he walked himself to a nearby fire station and waited for police to show up.

"The bullet entered here through my shoulder," he said. "One lodged about here into my collarbone area, and another one is in my back, right before my shoulder blade."

Atlanta Police said they still haven't found the people responsible.

"These guys don't seem to be more than 15 to 17 years old. I would say it's time to take some accountability. Live life a little different. I would say turn yourself in, but we know the probability of that happening is very, very low," Lampley said.

Lampley also wants parents to be more involved in their kids' lives and make sure they're proactive before something like this happens. The arrest of the two he encountered would give him peace of mind.

Police want anyone who recognizes or knows the suspects or has information on where they could be to give them a call -- or reach out to Crime Stoppers.
