ATLANTA — An Atlanta woman learned her fate Tuesday after being convicted of bank fraud for her role in a multi-million dollar COVID-19 fraud scheme.

Khadijah X. Chapman, 59, of Atlanta, was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining and misusing Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP, loans under the CARES Act in a fraud ring with two others, according to the U.S. Department of Justice

DOJ officials said Chapman was convicted of bank fraud in November 2023.

The other two co-defendants received approximately two years in prison.

Court documents and evidence show that the trio obtained $3.5 million in fraudulent PPP loans for fake businesses in 2020 and 2021 by working with co-conspirators to submit false information to financial institutions in Boise, Idaho.

The case was sponsored by the Attorney General's COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement Task Force to marshal the resources of the Justice Department in partnership with agencies across the government to enhance efforts to combat and prevent pandemic-related fraud.
