ATLANTA — Two men have been arrested in connection with the Feb. 5 shooting of a man while walking his dog in southwest Atlanta.
On Oct. 11, Ricky Pierce, 41, was taken into custody by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Pierce faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Brandon Baker, 36, was previously arrested on April 22 and is facing similar charges. Both men are now in custody as part of the ongoing investigation into Harris' death.
Samuel Harris, 44, known to family and friends as "J.R.," was shot and killed on Mitchell St. SW just after 8 p.m. on Feb. 5. His dog, Tequilla, was stolen during the incident.
Family and friends held a vigil on Feb. 10 at Charles Harper Memorial Park to honor Harris and demand justice. Lea Harris, his wife of 15 years, described him as a family man with a calm spirit who had lived in Georgia for 30 years.
Lea Harris spoke with 11Alive's Cody Alcorn ahead of the vigil; she said the two had been married for 15 years.
"To be honest with you, I don't even think I'm on the phone with you right now. I'm in a dream right now," Lea Harris said in an interview. "I'm really just waiting to wake up."
Authorities are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit at 404-546-4235 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477) to submit anonymous tips.
