SELLERSBURG, Indiana — An Atlanta 5-year-old boy is finally getting justice nearly two years after his body was found in a suitcase in southern Indiana.
Indiana State Police (ISP) held a news conference on Friday afternoon where they announced Cairo Jordan's mother, Dejaune Anderson, was arrested on Thursday.
"It's a somber moment when you think back to the whole story -- the whole case. I was in that area of the crime scene just last week and it just brings back a lot of memories," Sgt. Carey Huls told reporters at a news conference on Friday in Sellersburg, Indiana.
Anderson was arrested in Arcadia, California, after a concerned citizen contacted detectives, starting a search of her location, according to ISP Sgt. Carey Huls. His mother faces murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice charges.

11Alive previously spoke to Cairo's great-grandmother, Mary Jane Jordan, months after authorities found his body and identified his remains. She described him as a "happy baby."
“He was such a happy baby, though," Mary Jane Jordan said. "He was really happy here. I know his little face is so sad and sweet at the same time."
On April 16, 2022, an Indiana mushroom hunter found a brightly colored suitcase in the woods where Cairo's body was found. In October 2022, arrest warrants were obtained by the ISP, issued for Coleman and Anderson. Coleman was arrested shortly after the arrest warrants, while Anderson remained on the run for over a year until Thursday.
The recent arrest comes after a woman, Dawn Coleman, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the young boy's death in November. According to a report from 11Alive's sister station WTHR, Coleman was charged with aiding, inducing or causing murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.
Prosecutors say Coleman helped 37-year-old Anderson dispose of the body of Anderson's 5-year-old son, Cairo Jordan, in April 2022. According to reporting from WTHR, documents said Coleman told investigators she walked into a bedroom of their Louisville home and found Anderson of top Cairo.
The boy was face-down on the mattress, and court documents claim Coleman told investigators, "it was already done," WTHR's report said.
Before Cairo's body was discovered, an arrest affidavit showed that Anderson posted repeatedly on social media about demons using her children as avatars, with one post reading:
"I can't wait to tell this story about that exorcism."
Another post read in part:
“I had to raise my frequency, heal myself and past lives…to exercise a very powerful demonic force within my son”.
