ATLANTA — Police said suspects on the run from police are to blame for an accident that involved a MARTA bus on Thursday.
According to Atlanta Police Department spokesperson Lisa Bender, officers spotted possible carjacking suspects in the 2800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive around 11:30 a.m.
Police said the reportedly stolen white Dodge Durango was in the parking lot of Seven Courts Apartments. Once it was parked, officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver instead tried to escape hitting the MARTA bus in the process.
The three people in the car immediately attempted to run from the SUV but were caught a short time later. Officers recovered the stolen vehicle, two weapons and other stolen property.
Authorities charged the three suspects - Tyreke Daniel, Richard Branford and another 16-year-old juvenile - with theft by receiving/vehicle, theft by receiving/firearm, possession of firearm during commission of felony, reckless conduct, hit and run and obstruction.
More charges could be pending as the investigation continues.
