CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A Cartersville High School teacher is behind bars, accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Cartersville Police Department arrested the science teacher after investigating a possible sexual assault. According to authorities, CPD was notified of the case on Oct. 20.
After a week-long investigation in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement arrested the man.
Police said he had potentially assaulted a Cartersville High School student. His teacher bio shows that he was a four-year teacher at the school and taught biology and physical science. The father of three lives in Cartersville and graduated from the high school himself. He also coaches youth sports, according to the bio.
A spokesperson for the school said officials were tipped off about the potentially inappropriate communication between a teacher and student last week.
"School officials acted immediately and in accordance with the appropriate situational protocols," a statement from the school read.
Officials said he is no longer employed with the school nor the district.
The teacher is accused of improper sexual contact by employee, sexual exploitation of children, and obscene telephone contact. He was booked into the Bartow County jail is awaiting a bond hearing, authorities said.
