DALLAS, Ga. — A Chamblee Police officer was taken into custody on Monday after being accused of distributing child pornography.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), 48-year-old Roy Collar of Paulding County was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of child sexual material.
The Chamblee Police Department said it is aware of the criminal charges pending against one of its employees. It immediately relieved Collar of his duties pending the outcome of the investigation, according to a statement provided to 11Alive.
"The CPD is troubled by these allegations. We will continue to monitor the progress of this investigation," the statement continued.
According to the GBI, the investigation into Collar's online activity started after receiving a Cyber Tipleline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the possible online possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
The investigation was done with the Chamblee Police Department's cooperation, the GBI said. A search warrant was issued, which led to the officer's subsequent arrest.
Collar was taken to the Paulding County Jail.
Anyone with any information about other cases of child exploitation is asked to contact the GBI's child exploitation unit at 404-270-8870 or report through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children CyberTipeline.
