Watch | Georgia deputy shot at by teen fleeing in stolen car

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office posted video of the chase to Facebook.

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old is in custody and facing attempted murder and other charges after shooting at a deputy while fleeing in a stolen truck last week, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The sheriff's office posted video of the chase to Facebook. You can watch it in the video player above this story or in the YouTube player below.

According to the post, the chase began in the early morning hours last Thursday, June 22.

The deputy was on patrol when he clocked a truck speeding, the post states, and began to initiate a traffic stop.

As the deputy exited his patrol vehicle after making the stop, the driver fled.

During the chase the suspect "produced a handgun out of the driver’s side window during the pursuit and shot towards Deputy Barber a total of five times, (rapid fire two rounds the first time, and then three more rounds) striking his patrol vehicle."

You can see the point below in the video when the driver reaches an arm out and fires, with the deputy behind the wheel saying, "Oh! Shots fired shots fired."

The suspect later wrecked the truck and fled on foot, before later being taken into custody. The gun was found in the car's driver's seat.

Authorities located the owner of the truck in Heard County. He and his wife said the truck must have been stolen while they were sleeping, with the gun stolen from a separate car at their home.

The additional charges for the 16-year-old include aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, criminal interference with government property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, theft by receiving firearm, theft by receiving motor vehicle, reckless conduct, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and speeding.

"We are so grateful that Deputy Barber is ok, this incident just continues to shed light on the dangers of this job and the fact that nothing is ever 'routine' in this line of work. A simple traffic stop can turn deadly in a matter of seconds and thank God everyone went home whole this night," the sheriff's office post said.
