DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A man will now spend the rest of his life in prison after he took the life of a 24-year-old four years ago at a Decatur hotel, according to the district attorney's office.

Christopher Sellers, 45, was convicted and found guilty on charges of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault and two gun possession charges.

On April 2, 2019, DeKalb County Police responded to a hotel on Glenfair Road in unincorporated Decatur where they found Thedarious Mitchell, 24, shot in the back.

Mitchell was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The victim's girlfriend told police that she and him where in their hotel room when they heard the knock of death.

The 24-year-old opened the door and two men began fighting with him, the district attorney's office said. When Mitchell tried to get away, one of the men shot him.

Mitchell's girlfriend also told police that she knew the shooter under a few aliases and identified him as Sellers. She also said that she worked with the 45-year-old who pulled the trigger.

Sellers was later arrested in Nevada, according to the office. While an inmate there, he bragged to a cellmate about the deadly shooting.

The 45-year-old was sentenced to life without parole plus 15 years, the office said.
