Clayton County Police arrest alleged serial rapist who attacked women over several years

Clayton County Police held a news conference on Thursday afternoon to further discuss the case against 27-year-old Edward Huffman.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Clayton County Police on Thursday announced an arrest of an alleged serial rapist that they said had been attacking women "over the course of several years."

The Clayton County Police Department held a news conference on Thursday afternoon and provided further details on the case against 27-year-old Edward Huffman.

At the press conference, Clayton County Police Commander Frank Thomas said Huffman had "drugged, sodomized and raped multiple women."

"Based on the number of rapes Huffman is accused of committing, he is currently considered to be a serial rapist," a news release from the police department stated.

Booking info at the Clayton County Jail for Huffman showed 20 charges against him, including five for rape and others for aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, and prohibited nude or sexual electronic transmissions.

Thomas said the investigation started on Sept. 9, when two women reported Huffman had raped them. Huffman was taken into custody on Sept. 13. When investigators interviewed him, they said he initially denied the claims but later admitted to raping the women.

Investigators believe Huffman raped women at multiple locations in Clayton County and the City of Riverdale since 2021. Thomas said so far, there have been at least seven victims.

"The majority of the victims consider Huffman to be a friend... and provided similar accounts of being at several social functions hosted by Huffman," Thomas said.

Thomas said Huffman drugged his victims, recorded sexual acts while the women were incapacitated and then posted videos on pornographic websites for profit as "sleep porn." At this time, it's unclear what substance he allegedly used.

"Each victim advised after being at Huffman's presence, they did recall being asleep for an usual amount of time but did not suspect that he had harmed them in any way," Thomas said. "It was shocking to them when they were presented with images and videos retrieved from the pornographic websites of themselves with Huffman."

Huffman had also been accused of molesting a child, who he was in direct supervision of, on several occasions, according to investigators. Thomas said the child molestation charge is pending.

Huffman is currently in custody at the Clayton County Jail. According to court records obtained by 11Alive, Huffman has a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 16.

Clayton County Police are asking if anyone has had contact under similar circumstances to call them at (770)477-3747 opt. 7 and file an incident report.

"Once things are put on the Internet, they don't go away. This is going to be a haunting thing for these women for the rest of their lives," Thomas said. "It's horrific."
