CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Clayton County Police officer was arrested this week and accused of stealing from a rail company, the department confirmed Wednesday morning.
Officer Jordan D. Sidney was booked on Monday on two charges -- theft of lost or mislaid property and violation of oath of office. Both are felony counts, according to a release.
In a statement, Clayton County Police said they were first notified in June of theft from the railway line by Norfolk Southern Railway Police.
At that time, "a collaborative criminal investigation began between the Clayton County District Attorney's Office, Clayton County Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit, and Norfolk Southern Railway Police," a statement said.
The police statement added that Sidney "was captured on video removing property belonging to Norfolk Southern."
"The investigation revealed sufficient probable cause that Jordan Sidney violated Georgia Law and the Policies of the Clayton County Police Department," CCPD said.
The exact nature of the theft was not further detailed. Book records show Sidney spent more than 24 hours at the Clayton County Jail, before he was released a little before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
